LoreEdit

Ocean on His Shoulder

Among all adherents of Almark, the God of Nature, the Sea People are known as the most reverent, and the most eccentric.

This race, which was created by Almark himself, is truly detached from the outside world in its reasoning and wealth. They live alone in the deep seas and rarely get involved in the disputes of mainland Etryna.

They possess a powerful innate ability to control water. However, with the exception of a small number of their most powerful members, the majority of the merfolk gradually lose this elemental power after leaving their marine sanctuary. And those who leave are treated with great scorn by those who choose to stay, for the God of Nature did not create the Sea People on a whim.

Moogo Volcano, which lies in the furthest depths of the Pandecic Ocean at the heart of the Sea People's territory, hides a brutal scar left behind when the Dark Lord Padrino retreated from the mainland--the Black Gate.

Legend has it that the Padrino will one day lead his army of followers return to Etryna through the Black Gate, shrouding the continent in shadow and recapturing everything that was once his. The Sea People are the watchmen of the Black Gate, Etryna's first line of defense.

This is what all merfolk believe. All merfolk, that is, but one.

In one corner of the seamounts, Neptide, the ruler of the Sea People for this generation and the most powerful controller of the force of the water element in history, was watching the far-off Moogo Volcano.

The magma overrunning slowly from the pitch-black crater was engaged in a desperate struggle with the seawater. The cooled debris was swept away with the sea current, never to be seen again.

Since the first day Moogo Volcano, which had been dormant for millennia, showed signs of activity, the Ruler of the Deep had spent many days and nights watching it here.

It is time.

Emitting an inaudible sigh, Neptide clenched his trident. He turned to face the countless merfolk who had lined up silently behind him and told them a secret that only the Rulers of the Deep ever knew.

Before Padrino became the Dark Lord, Almark, the God of Nature, was his only friend among the gods. Padrino finally decided to leave the continent of Etryna and escape the deadly trap of the God of Gods only because he listened to Armanka's advice.

After Padrino departed, Almark created the Sea People to monitor the Black Gate, clearing away the suspicions of the God of Gods.

Therefore, as only the Rulers of the Deep knew, the true mission of the Sea People was to guard Padrino's only passageway to return to Etryna.

The God of Nature promised that once Padrino returned and their mission as guardians ended, they would have the right to choose for themselves where to go and what to do.

Would they go with the humans, elves, and dwarves of mainland Etryna, with whom they were not very familiar, or would they seek refuge with the even more unfamiliar army of the Dark Lord? At this life-or-death moment, the Sea People, caught between mainland Etryna and the Dark Lord, could no longer stand aside.

"My people," a flash of fatigue appeared in the eyes of Neptide, "are you...willing to follow me?"

A month later, a single individual stepped onto the Baleriand Coast. Neptide looked back at the Pandecic.

Under this ocean, which still appeared calm, a storm was brewing that would sweep the entire continent of Etryna.
